Alarm Systems

Protect what matters

A well-designed, monitored residential security system protects both people and possessions. But the most important benefit it provides is peace of mind.

That’s because a monitored security system is a smart and cost-effective way to prevent or minimize the impact of potential threats—such as fire, flood, carbon monoxide, forced entry/theft, system failure (e.g., loss of heat) or medical emergency.

(If you’ve never had an alarm system, or a monitored security system, and aren’t sure how they work, please read our Security Facts page.)

The creation of a security system has three main steps.

  1. Design

What is the purpose of the system? What are the specific needs or concerns? What type of environment will it be used in? Who will be using it? These answers will determine the type of system that’s required.

  2. Equip

What exactly is needed to properly address your security needs? This may include door/window contacts; sensors (for detecting fire, smoke, natural gas, carbon monoxide, high/low heat, or motion); wearable security devices; security cameras; or other equipment. Monitoring can be done using a wired system, such as through a telephone landline or Internet connection, or wirelessly using cell technology. Many different types of wireless detectors/equipment are also available.

  3. Install

Once the system is designed and the equipment selected, everything needs to be properly installed and the supporting documentation provided and explained to the client.
